Advanced Placement (AP) Program

It is the goal of Squalicum High School to challenge and stretch every student in a rigorous set of classes every year.  All students are encouraged to enroll in at least one AP course while in high school. Some AP courses are available to 9th graders. Advanced Placement courses are college level courses offered in the high school.  AP courses include frequent homework and involve extensive reading, and some may include a summer reading assignment.  Students in AP courses may earn college credit or advanced placement if they perform well on rigorous national AP tests. Ask  your counselor for assistance in selecting 9th, 10th and 11th grade courses that will best prepare you for success in any AP course that interests you.  If a student chooses to challenge themselves in college preparatory courses, he/she will not be denied access to advanced level classes.  As the summative assessment is an essential element of the class, there is the expectation that students who sign up for an Advanced Placement class will take the corresponding Advanced Placement tests.  If a student refuses to take the assessment, he/she may risk losing the College Board AP delineation on their transcript.  Like all classes, once a student signs up for an AP class they will be required to stay in the class for the entire year.
