 2012 Mother's Day Baskets

Bellingham Parks and Rec Halloween Party at Bloedel Donovan Park - October 31, 2011

Rotary Interact Club is a very active service club at Squalicum High School with over 80 members. The Club is in partnership with Bellingham Bay Rotary and engages in numerous activities throughout the year, typically one or two volunteer events per month. It’s a great way to get involved, get volunteer hours, meet new friends and give back to your community. The club is designed to help students build on leadership and commitment, as well as to learn the importance of volunteerism. Rotary is always looking for new members… so don’t be afraid to drop by Mr. Mayers’ room (C205) if you want to join! We have the potential to do great things, especially together.

What is unique about Rotary Interact is the fact that we focus on helping all areas of need in our community. We have done things ranging from cleaning disabled people's apartments to making 100 Mothers' Day Baskets for battered women. This year, we are taking our efforts internationally, as we are introducing a club within Rotary Interact called Operation Smile, a student association that helps support children with cleft palates all over the world.

If you are interested, here are a select few of our activities from the past years:

  • Operation Smile Student Team

Worked with students to raise money for free reconstructive surgery for children with cleft palates in developing countries in partnership with Operation Smile, a worldwide organization

  • Making Mothers’ Day Baskets for Battered Women

Annually created over 100 Mothers’ Day Baskets for abused women. Committed over 50 hours in collecting community donations, constructing baskets, and delivering gifts to care shelters

  • Coordinating and Participating in Food Drive for the Food Bank

Coordinated a food drive with a local grocery store. Raised and gave over 1,500 cans and $197.00 in cash donations to the local Food Bank in time for Thanksgiving

  • Lincoln Square Chore Day

Cleaned the homes of low-income elderly residents to help them pass an upcoming federal inspection

  • Preparing Meals for Thanksgiving Feed

Prepared full-course turkey dinners for the needy at a local café

  • Serving as a Whatcom Hospice Volunteer

Served as a fundraising assistant to events such as pumpkin sales and an auction

  • Serving as a Big Brothers Big Sisters Volunteer
