Welcome to the Social Studies Department
Social Studies
Social Studies at Squalicum contributes to developing responsible citizens in a culturally diverse, democratic society within an interdependent world. Social Studies equips learners to make sound judgments and take appropriate actions that will contribute to sustainable development of human society and the physical environment.
At the high school level, there is an extensive offering of AP courses at every level, including World, U.S. History and American Government. In addition there is a rich selection of elective social studies courses available including; Comparative Religions, AP Psychology, AP Economics, and AP Art History. Based on a rigorous and challenging curriculum and appropriate investigations and reflections within social studies, students develop distinctive skills and a critical awareness of the human condition and emerging spatial patterns and the processes and events that shape them. In addition, social studies courses are designed to challenge students by promoting essential writing, reading, and analytical skills that ensure students not only succeed, but excel in college.WA State History online course
