MICHELLE NILSEN –SCHOOL COUNSELOR

Michelle Nilsen graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in English and from Washington State University with a Masters in Education.  She earned her Advanced College Counseling Certification from the University of San Diego.  She is a National Board Certified School Counselor (NBCT), a member of NACAC, PNACAC, ASCA and WSCA.  Mrs. Nilsen has served on the board for the National Office for School Counselor Advocacy for over 5 years and currently sits on the board for the Advocates for Multicultural Student Achievement.  Additionally, Mrs. Nilsen is the FAFSA Completion Project Lead for the school district.

 ARAMIS JOHNSON – SCHOOL COUNSELOR

Aramis Johnson is the current department chair of the Squalicum High School Counseling Department. He graduated from Western Washington University with a BA in Psychology and Masters in Education. He is certified as a school counselor in the state of Washington and is a member of NEA, WEA, and ASCA. At SqHS, he serves as the AVID Counselor. Additionally, Mr. Johnson is the advisor for MECHA and the Multicultural Clubs.

STEVE WILEY – SCHOOL COUNSELOR

Steve Wiley graduated from Pacific Lutheran University with a BA in Education and Masters in Education.  He taught social studies for 3 years in the Clover Park School District and eastern Washington.  He is certified as a school counselor in the state of Washington and is a member of WSCA.  Mr. Wiley currently sits on the board for InvestEd (formerly Saul Haas Funds) and chairs the Squalicum Belonging and Mattering Committee.

JUDY KIRKLAND – COUNSELING SECRETARY FOR SQUALICUM HIGH SCHOOL

Judy Kirkland has worked for Squalicum High School since the 1998-99 school year. She is a member of the Bellingham Association of School Employees and the Washington Education Association. She enjoys spending time with family, time in the great outdoors and reading. She grew up in Oregon and attended Southern Oregon University as a business major.

BOBBY JONES – SCHOOL COUNSELOR INTERN

Bobby Jones is preparing to graduate from City University-Bellevue with a Masters in Education.  He currently works as a paraeducator in SqHS’s Bridges Program.  He is a student member of the Washington School Counselors Association (WSCA).
